The Little Story Behind Le Dressing by Boubou

Laurence, 50 ans, was born to a Belgian mother and an Italian father.

In 2013, she decided to leave Belgium and settle in Mauritius with her partner Didier and their two children, Milo and Lily.

Upon arriving, she quickly realised that her wardrobe was completely unsuited to the tropical climate : synthetic fabrics, non-breathable cuts, clothes far too warm… 

Everything went into storage and, suddenly, her wardrobe was nearly empty ! 😅​​

She began searching for clothing that was light, feminine, comfortable — and above all, suited to the Mauritian heat. But the search wasn’t very fruitful… So she thought: “What if I made my own dresses?” "

Having taken sewing classes back in Belgium, she headed to Port Louis to hunt for beautiful fabrics, sketched a few designs, and got started. The first dresses were born — just for herself..

Then, fate stepped in. While preparing her wedding in Mauritius, Laurence met Carla, a talented seamstress from Grand Gaube, who was tasked with making the dresses for her bridesmaids. It was a professional match made in heaven ❤️

Laurence imagines, sketches, and chooses the fabrics. Carla brings it all to life with her expert hands. A beautiful connection formed instantly — no need for many words. They just understood each other.

When Laurence’s friends started asking her to design dresses for them too, the adventure took a new turn. 

She began creating new designs, dreaming up a small collection… And that’s how, in 2015, Le Dressing by Boubou was born 🌺

Since then, the brand has been offering light, flowing, always feminine clothing, lovingly made in small batches at its workshop in Pereybère. 

The team has grown too, and now includes 8 talented seamstresses. 

🌸 Why "by" Boubou ?

And here’s the little anecdote: Boubou is the nickname her husband has always used for her. Over time, everyone began calling her that — even her clients

And since she loves the way Mauritians effortlessly blend French and English in everyday speech, the name Le Dressing by Boubou came naturally — a sweet nod to the island that inspires her so deeply 🌴 🌴
